Super Mario World Level
Secret Exit? No
Level(s) # 127, 1E0, 1E1
Notes Sixth level in the Special World.
List of Levels

Mondo is a level in Super Mario World and the sixth level in the Special World.

Starting at the very left end of the level, you are greeted by a sinking/rising Layer 3 tide. As you swim, walk or move otherwise, depending on your powerup situation and tide level, you meet two Cheep Cheeps and an Amazing Flying Hammer Brother. Afterwards is also a Muncher pit. The deeper you get inside the level, the more these enemies appear. A climactic setting is Screen 04, in which it can be particularly difficult to swim past the fish while dodging the Hammer Brother's projectiles.
Also, especially when the tide is low, much caution has to be taken from the Muncher pits. There is exactly one pit inside the level which is not filled with Munchers, as it is a bottomless pit. This very pit is situated right next to two blue pipes, of which the leftmost holds an exit to sub-level 1E0. Upon entering this level, you are in an environment which is a typical "cloud coin heaven" like in Super Mario Bros. 3 - though ironically, there aren't that many coins inside them.
Also notable is the double-stacked row of ? Blocks near the end of the level. One could argue that it's a play on the double-stacked row of bricks in Super Mario Bros. which were often inhabited by Hammer Brothers, a key hazard in this very level.
You exit the level once you enter the warp pipe to level 1E1, where a Goal Tape is situated.

  • This is one of a few levels that contains a sub-level with the almost unusual Cloud tileset (the cloud part in the Forest tileset).
  • The name Mondo is a Italian name. The level supposedly looks like the streets of Venice.
  • It is actually possible to swim underneath the entire level.
