The Boo Ring is a collection of ten cluster sprites which basically form a ring of Boos that rotates either clockwise or counter-clockwise depending on the sprite number used. Sprite E2 makes the Boos rotate against the clock and sprite E3 makes the Boos rotate with the clock. The speed at which this happens is always the same.

Attack Strategy

It's important to note that the Boos that are found in this ring cannot be jumped nor spin-jumped on. And much like their fellow counterparts, these Boos are completely invulnerable to any given attack, even a player with Star power.

Trying to attack them is really a waste of time - it's best to avoid these creatures, as they simply form a stationary obstacle and don't do anything else. A good way of tackling this is to just run past when a clear open gap forms, and then wait until that gap forms at the other side (when the Boo ring has rotated for another half-circle). It is also possible to get past the ring by running through the small gaps inbetween each Boo, but this is tricky and definitely not without risk.

Hacking Information

There can only be two Boo Rings on screen at the same time. This is due to the fact that several cluster sprite tables would overflow otherwise, as there are only two slots for the Boo Rings themselves, and only twenty slots for cluster sprites in total.

The routine of the Boos in the ring starts at $02:FA98 (SNES).
